New figures show a 96% increase in the level of sexual crime reported to the police in Scotland over the past decade.
New figures released today by the Scottish Government show that:
• The level of reported sexual crime has increased by 96% over the past 10 years.
• In the past year, reported rape and attempted rape has increased by 9% and sexual assault by 29%.
• There has been a 17% increase in threatening to or disclosing intimate images.
• 37% of the sexual crimes recorded by the police in the past year (2021-22) related to a victim under the age of 18.
New figures show almost 1 in 5 trials for rape/attempted result in Not Proven
New figures released today by the Scottish Government show that almost one in five trials for rape or attempted rape result in a Not Proven verdict.
The figures also show a fall in the number of prosecutions but a slight increase in the number of convictions.
• Almost one in five rape and attempted rape trials result in a not proven verdict.
• 43% of rape and attempted rape trials result in a conviction.

· Reported rape increased by 22% in 2017/18 compared to the previous year
· Reported rape & attempted rapes have increased by 99% since 2010
· In at least 40% of reported sexual offences, the complainer was under 18.
New figures released today by the Scottish Government show record levels of sexual crime being reported to the police. This includes a 22% increase in the number of rapes being reported to the police.
