SARCS Network Lived Experience Representative

This is an exciting opportunity to be an active member of the NHS Network which has responsibility for the continuous improvement of Sexual Assault Response Coordination Services (SARCS) across Scotland.

NHS SARCS offer healthcare and forensic medical services after a rape or sexual assault for people aged 16 or over, regardless of whether they choose to report to the police. There is a SARCS in every health board in Scotland. Further information on SARCS can be found here.

A SARCS Network has been established in NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) to support Health Boards to continuously improve their SARCS. It is crucial that this work is informed by the views of people with lived experience.

About the role:

This one year, [fixed term appointment] will involve:

• Working as part of the SARCS Network to ensure that the needs of people who access SARCS are considered in the improvement of services.

• Engaging with a range of health, justice and third Sector partners, as well as other lived experience forums as required, to gain a broad range of perspectives to inform service developments.

• Attending meetings of the SARCS Network’s Oversight Board, which meets on a quarterly basis.

• Attending the Network’s Core Steering Group meetings, consisting of Service Leads for SARCS across Scotland, to discuss pertinent topics and projects for Oversight Board consideration each quarter.

• Meeting with the RCS Participation Worker for support and mentorship every 6 weeks.

• Engaging with peer support opportunities with other members of the RCS Mentorship Programme.

The post holder is not expected to fulfil this role based solely on their own experience of services. It is important that where possible, they seek to represent the views of a diverse range of people with lived experience. They will be supported to do so by the Rape Crisis Scotland Participation Worker.

About the SARCS Network:

The Network’s remit is to provide national leadership within the NHS to support SARCS in the delivery of coordinated, holistic, person-centred and trauma informed healthcare and forensic medical services across Scotland.

The Network has working groups covering workforce, education and training; pathways of care; data and intelligence; and children and young people. The Network’s Oversight Board monitors the Network’s overall workplan and endorses recommendations from the working groups for national adoption.

You will have regular access to the SARCS Network Programme team, including the National Clinical Lead and National Nurse Lead, and be fully supported by the wider team to familiarise yourself with Network priorities, deliverables and ways of working.
