Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre: Support & Advocacy Worker

£28,406 pro rata, 28 hours Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre logo

Established in 1978, Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre (ERCC) provides a support, information and advocacy service for women, non-binary people, members of the trans community and young people aged 12 and over in Edinburgh, East and Midlothian who have experienced recent and/or historic sexual violence, including rape, sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse and commercial sexual exploitation. We also work in schools and with young people across Edinburgh and the Lothians, and strategically with multi-agency partners, towards preventing sexual violence.

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Support and Advocacy Worker to provide dedicated advocacy support to survivors of sexual violence who have engaged or are considering engaging with the criminal justice system following a sexual crime. In particular this post will support survivors involved in a new Visually Recorded Interview (VRI) pilot being run in Edinburgh. The VRI pilot is a joint project between Rape Crisis Scotland, Police Scotland, Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service and the Scottish Government. The pilot involves the visual recording of the police statements of rape complainers, with a view to these statements potentially being used as someone’s evidence in chief in any trial.

This post is funded by the Scottish Government. Funding is confirmed up to 31 March 2021 and agreed in principle for the duration of the two year pilot which is expected to be until August 2021.
