Legal Responses to Rape – Scotland’s Chance to Get It Right

A National Conference Organised by Rape Crisis Scotland

Rape Crisis Scotland is hosting a major national conference on legal responses to rape. 25 April 2005. Glasgow.

The conference aims to:

• provide information on legal developments relating to justice responses to rape and other sexual offences

• to bring together policy makers and those working with survivors of sexual violence • to develop a greater understanding of the issues facing women reporting rape and other sexual offences, with a view to inputting shared concerns into current legal developments.

Speakers include:

Hugh Henry, Deputy Justice Minister

Elish Angiolini QC, Solicitor General

Professor Gerry Maher, of the Scottish Law Commission

Fiona Raitt, Dundee University

Professor Michele Burman, University of Glasgow

Workshops at the conference will be run on three themes:

• supporting women through court

• the use of sexual history and character evidence

• defining rape

Fees : Standard Conference Fee £150

Conference fee for low income voluntary sector organizations £75

Free places are available to available to women who have been through sexual offence trials.
